Last week a large group of friends came to Pizzadilly Restaurant to celebrate Dr.G’s 68th birthday. The 6:00pm celebration started promptly and was adorned with great table decorations, balloons, banners, and lots of friendly faces.

“This was an awesome gathering,” says June Hughes who regularly attends Dr.G’s CITY TALK meetings. Another attendee, Rachel Ngo added, “The plan was simple - plenty of pizza, lots of positive conversation, and delicious chocolate cake.” “The Dr.G stories that were told by Linda Hanson, Rachel Ngo and Lisa Roo were positive, funny, and grabbed everyone’s attention,” said Norma Gallardo, a long-time Dr.G supporter, and one of the organizers of this event. Her son, Brandon, started the event by leading the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Dr.G playing the national anthem on his trumpet.

The purpose of this gathering is not just to celebrate Dr.G’s birthday, but also to enjoy the company of good friends, good food, and good vibes. There is no agenda, no business…just a bunch of friends enjoying the time together. “Everything is positive,” said Yaneth Murillo, who brought her children to Dr.G’s birthday celebration. She continued, “They had a great time, and like to take pictures with Dr.G.”

The people who attended had a great time eating delicious pizza made by new owners Sherwin and Denise, who took over the business in December. Everything was prepared perfectly for a fantastic birthday celebration, and the cake, especially ordered by Cynthia Velasquez was awesome, made of Dr.G’s favorite chocolate icing, marble cake, and chocolate filling.

Approximately 50 people attended this event, and the stories about Dr.G were well-received, as were the large number of cards and letters of support.  “I was so blessed to have so many friends come to my pizza party,’ reflected Dr.G, who added, ”everyone had a great time enjoying the food, enjoying the stories, and singing “Happy Birthday” in a variety of musical keys – that was fun!”  Of course, what event is complete without everyone wanting to take a picture with Dr.G., who took dozens of photos with his guests, and posted them on his FB page.

For those who know Dr. G, which are many in the community, knows that he maintains close contact with the residents. He is available, is always willing to help as much as possible, and…willing to “roll up his sleeves.”

Congratulations to Dr. G on his 68th birthday which is officially March 4.  May he be blessed with many more years to come, and may his service to the community continue to be a blessing to all those with whom he comes into contact.
