Under the tutelage of tenth-year coach Josh Brown, SBVC Men's Soccer ended the year with a 7-6-8 overall record and a 4-3-1 conference record. As a reward for their second place finish in the Foothill Conference, the team was bestowed with the Coach of the Year award, three first team All-Conference honors, three second team All-Conference honors and five Honorable Mentions. Freshman midfielder Hector Hernandez (Moreno Valley Canyon Springs) had the prestigious honor of being named 2nd Team All-American by NSCAA for Junior College Men's Division III. In addition, Hernandez was also named 1st Team All-West Region by NSCAA for Junior College Men's Division III. This is the first time that an SBVC Men’s Soccer player has been named to either of these awards. This is the third time that the Foothill Conference Coach of the Year award has been presented to Coach Brown who guided SBVC to a huge upset victory at home over the state #1, at the time, Rio Hondo on October 16th and the upset victory at #3 Chaffey on Oct. 23. Named to this year's First Team All-Foothill Conference was Hernandez who led the team with 7 goals, three of those goals put into the back of the net for a “hat trick” at Chaffey on October 23rd. Hernandez also had the game winning goal in the 89th minute at home against Fullerton on September 11th. He also had four assists on the season, leading the team in total points. Also named to this year's First Team All-Foothill Conference was freshman midfielder Danny Meza (Fontana Jurupa Hills) who led the team with seven assists along with two goals, grabbing two assists at Chaffey on October 23rd and had the game tying goal in injury time at Santa Ana on September 22nd. Freshman midfielder Alex Gomez (Fontana Azariel Blanchard Miller) was also named to this year's First Team All-Foothill Conference. He had six goals and four assists. Gomez, always the distributor, had the game winning goal at Pasadena City on September 15th and a multi-goal game at home against Desert on October 30th. Named second team All-Foothill Conference was freshman goalkeeper Alexis Primera (Colton H.S.) who played nearly every single minute in net for SBVC this season, recording four clean sheets and making 82 saves, with a 76.7% save percentage. Also named second team All-Foothill Conference was freshman midfielder Aldo Iniguez (San Bernardino San Gorgonio) who was a important contributor throughout the season adding a key insurance goal at home against Rio Hondo on October 16th. Sophomore midfielder Robert Morales (Riverside Poly) was also named second team All-Foothill Conference, his veteran leadership was essential in the middle for SBVC as he had goals at Taft on October 20th and at Victor Valley on October 27th. Named Foothill Conference Honorable Mention was sophomore midfielder Bryan Oropeza (Corona H.S.) and freshman defender Justin Kafoury (Corona H.S.). Oropeza had back-to-back game winning goals at Desert on October 13th and at home against Rio Hondo on October 16th and Kafoury was a key in anchoring a defense that secured four shutouts, his only goal was at Southwestern on September 4th. Also named Foothill Conference Honorable Mention was freshman defender Brian Rojo (Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos) and freshman midfielder Fernando Ramirez III (Corona H.S.). Freshman defender Ethan Ronquillo (Temecula Chaparral) was also named Foothill Conference Honorable Mention. It was another exciting run for SBVC Men's Soccer head coach Josh Brown and his program, there are many things to look forward to in the upcoming season with the change in athletics Conferences to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. In 2016, SBVC will have to face Cuyamaca, Southwestern, San Diego City, San Diego Mesa, MiraCosta, Palomar, Imperial Valley and College of the Desert in a home-at-home series. It should be a thrilling 2016 campaign.
