Refurbishing Terrace Hills Middle School Pool

The refurbishment of Terrace Hills Middle School Pool is expected to be completed by the end of September, thanks to a license agreement with the City of Grand Terrace and Colton Joint Unified School District. The agreement, approved on June 13, 2017, called for the City to pay for the pool refurbishment (use of park development impact fees) and the school district to provide maintenance of the pool. Terrace Hills Middle School students will have an opportunity to use the pool during instruction hours and the larger Grand Terrace community will have access to the pool during non-school hours.

Terrace Hills Middle School Pool was a very active recreational facility in the past, used for a variety of classes, open-swim, as well as a practice space for local swim clubs. The declined state of the pool prevented the use of the pool for many years. In 2016, the City hosted a successful summer swim program at Grand Terrace High School, through a partnership with Colton Joint Unified School District and The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Redlands-Riverside. Originally, Terrace Hills Middle School Pool, located in the center of the community, was the desired location for the program.

Terrace Hills Middle School Pool currently looks like-new after undergoing re-plastering, surface cleaning, hardware replacement and the installation of a new heater. The pool now has an opportunity to return to active use by students, Grand Terrace residents and local community groups. This is another amazing example of the power of collaboration and what can be achieved when local elected officials at the Colton Joint Unified School District and the City Council of Grand Terrace work together to enhance the quality of life of  its constituency.
