The Ken Hubbs Little League: 11-12 year-old girls softball team represented their Colton pride as they were named the 2015 District 21 Champions and the 2015 Section 8 Champions on Tuesday, July 14. The girls claimed their title after beating Victorville on Friday, July 10, with a 13 to 2 win over them. Their hard work didn’t stop there, as they played again on Monday, July 13, against Oceanside, taking home the win in the fifth inning with a final score of 20 – 3. According to Ken Hubbs supporter Vince Castro, the Ken Hubbs team scored one run in the first inning but Oceanside came back by scoring three runs in the second and third innings. The Ken Hubbs girls stepped up and came back in the fourth and fifth innings as they took home the win, 20 – 3. “These girls and this program have been very successful,” Softball Coordinator Ruben Gudino shared. “We’re definitely one of the top four teams.” The next step for them was working toward the State Championship. They were scheduled to play games this past weekend, July 17-18; however, the games were cancelled due to the rainy weather throughout the weekend. Although the skies were still cloudy and the rain was still coming down, the Ken Hubbs girls put on their game faces and played against Burbank on Sunday, July 19. Despite the weather, they played their best but unfortunately fell short with a close final score of 9 – 8. The Ken Hubbs girl’s softball team has enjoyed an extremely successful season this year. Aside from losing to Burbank, they still have the title of 2015’s District 21 and Section 8 Champions.
