On Nov. 7, the Azure Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church in Grand Terrace was filled with joyful sound as several musical groups from the church’s 2,000-member congregation joined together to perform for an ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) Water Fundraising concert. The concert began with a performance by the church’s praise team. Followed by “Awesome God” and “Just As I Am,” performed by Azure Hills Chimes, a group of children performing music similar to a bell choir. During the two-hour concert, which was live-streamed, 11 groups performed, both children and adults. “ADRA works in more than 130 countries,” says Chris LeBrun, associate director for major gifts for ADRA International. LeBrun traveled from Silver Spring, MD, to attend the event. He stated that 780 million people do not have access to clean water. He emphasized the impact that a source of fresh water can make on a community, including making it possible for children to attend school and decreasing the number of serious illnesses. This was the first time that several musical groups from within the church participated in a fundraising concert. "I went to a conference back in February this year,” says Reed, “called the One Project in San Diego. I was inspired by a message ADRA President Jonathan Duffy gave during the conference. I thought to myself, 'ADRA does great work. Perhaps I can organize an event at my church to support them.'" When Reed approached Trevan Osborn, executive pastor from Azure Hills Church, he immediately agreed for her to plan and emcee the concert. “It is Thanksgiving season,” he said. “It is the perfect time for our congregation to consider those around the world whose lives will be changed by our giving.” Reed chose the water project from “ADRA’s Really Useful Gift Catalog,” which lists ADRA-sponsored projects that can save and change lives.
