Lights Go Down for Cooley Ranch's Big Hero 6 Movie Night

About 150 families filled Cooley Ranch Elementary School’s multipurpose room Friday, May 1 for the second and final Movie Night event of the 2014-15 school year. Families spread blankets and propped pillows across the room’s floor to watch a screening of Disney’s “Big Hero 6.” Cooley Ranch’s K-Kids Club, a youth service club, played host at the event’s snack stand, serving up a variety of foods including hot dogs and nachos. K-Kids is a Kiwanis International program that encourages youngsters to be leaders and serve their community. Skechers shoes donated footwear that the PTO distributed to Cooley students on Friday free of charge. The movie nights serve as a fundraiser for the school’s PTO and K-Kids program. These funds help pay for other school programs, field trips and some needed equipment. Ice coolers that are used to transport lunches during field trips, water bottles for Student of the Month honorees and soccer balls for lunch time recess are among the items purchased with money raised from a variety of fundraisers. This year, the PTO is helping fund an educational, overnight trip to Sea World for the sixth grade class, a final farewell as the class bids Cooley goodbye and moves to next stage of their education. Less than a month remains in the Colton Joint Unified School District’s academic year. While the children prepare for their summer, Cooley administrators and PTO board members have already started discussions about the incoming year. More fundraisers are planned for the 2015-16 school year as the school looks to provide as many resources to the children as possible.
