On Aug. 22, 2014, Officer Garcia was shot in the head when a gunman opened fire on him and a rookie officer in San Bernardino. Garcia was taken to ARMC in Colton. As of Sept. 8 Garcia was taken out of a medically-induced coma and was breathing without a respirator. Dr. Dev Gnanadev said, “It will take about six months to a year before we know what his recovery is, but he is recovering." Our positive thoughts and prayers are with Officer Garcia and every Law Enforcement Officer. Starting, Monday Sept. 22, the City of Colton is displaying their support throughout the city with blue lights and blue ribbons. The Colton Police Department is giving out free blue light bulbs starting at 9 a.m on Sept. 22 to Colton residents. In order to receive a free blue light bulb, you will need to show a valid California Driver’s License or California ID with your Colton address. The representation of the color blue is to honor Officer Garcia and all law enforcement personnel who put themselves in danger on a daily basis.
