The City of Moreno Valley is stepping on the gas to improve traffic flow and road safety. With nearly 200 traffic signals citywide, the City’s Public Works Department is actively working to modernize infrastructure, upgrade software, hardware, and implement cutting-edge technology to keep commuters moving efficiently.

Thanks to recently secured grant funding from the Local Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), the City is set to replace more than half of its existing traffic signals with modernized reflective signals in 2025, enhancing driver visibility in 89 different intersections.

These signal improvements, which will occur over four separate installation phases, are part of a broader initiative to integrate innovative traffic management solutions, including the City’s Traffic Management Center, which allows staff to monitor and adjust signals in real-time for optimal traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

“Our residents deserve a smooth and safe commute,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera. “With new technology, improved synchronization, and brighter, more visible signals, we’re cutting congestion, reacting in real-time, and actively managing our City’s traffic flow.”

The City is also building a citywide fiber network to enhance signal coordination. This significant investment in advanced traffic technology, which was made possible through multiple grant funds, will deliver strategic upgrades, reduced congestion, improved safety, and a better commuting experience for Moreno Valley drivers.

The City remains committed to creating a transportation network that keeps residents moving—smoothly and safely.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
