Esteemed Chiropractor Goes Above and Beyond

Dr. James Cheeley, D.C., is a gifted local chiropractor. His chiropractic practice is unique in that he has two specialties – he is both a chiropractic neurologist and nutritionist. In his neurology practice, he was recently able to sucessfully treat, through adjustments, numbness on the right side of a young woman’s body. She has responded very well, and she’s now back to work.

Through his nutrition specialty, he recently treated a woman who was rapidly losing weight, was sick and was nauseous; she appeared as though she had cancer. She had recently had a lot of dental work done, so Dr. Cheeley theorized that she had cadmium or mercury poisoning, both commonly used in dentistry.

He suggested she have a mineral test done. Results showed she had no cadmium or mercury in her system, but she had a case of extremely high aluminum poisoning. The culprit turned out to be juice. She had been drinking nothing but soft aluminum juice packs that were stored in a room that, in the summertime, became as hot as 120 degrees; the aluminum was leaching out into the juice.

Needless to say, she stopped consumption of the juice. Six weeks later, she’s put on weight, she’s not nauseous anymore, and she’s doing fine. A month ago, a man came in who was in so much pain, he had to have help into his wheelchair, into his car, and out of the wheelchair in Dr. Cheeley’s office.

Being a bit crotchety, he came in “knowing that I couldn’t help,”  chuckled Dr. Cheeley. After Dr. Cheeley treated him for a month, the man says that for the first time in 10 years he has no pain in his back, legs or hips.

Another recent patient came to Dr. Cheeley because she knew he would take xrays, something most chiropractors do not do. In fact HMOs actually punished him for using x-rays. He recently was punished for finding tumors in two patients. HMOs routinely discourage doctors from taking certain diagnostic tests, especially x-rays, to cut costs.

The radiologist found what was thought to be a teratoma tumor in the bladder. After additional testing, the patient found that in fact she does have a medical problem that she never would have known about had she not come to Dr. Cheeley first.

The patient wanted Dr. Cheeley to know, “I am very grateful for that discovery.”

Dr. Cheeley began his chiropractic practice because of an incident that happened when he was a teenager. When he was in high school he injured his back badly, and was told he needed to have surgery after a year and a half of treatment with his family doctor. On the day of the surgery he “chickened out,” and went to a chiropractor who was right across the street, Dr. L. James McCarty. (Coincidentally, Dr. Cheeley is now treating Dr. McCarty, who is 89 years old).

His condition improved quickly, though he was aggravated that he had wasted a year and a half in treatment with his family doctor. Cheely’s previous treatment, resulting in leg atrophy, left him discouraged: “Since the 7th grade I had dreamed of being a Forest Ranger,” remembers Dr. Cheely. He had to give up that dream as a result of his changed condition.

The 1st of January will mark 32 years Dr. Cheeley has been in practice, at the same location on “D” Street in San Bernardino. He has treated over 30,000 people, and gives the same excellent care and attention to everyone who comes through his door. He is a special doctor indeed.
