COLTON – Valerie A. Johnson was recently named the Postmaster of the Colton Post Office.

In that position, Johnson manages 52 employees and oversees retail services at the Colton Post Office and the daily distribution of mail on 30 delivery routes in Colton and Grand Terrace and to 1,500 PO Boxes at her facility.

She replaces former Colton Postmaster Patricia Canedo, who retired.

Johnson is a 17-year postal employee who began her career as a clerk and most recently served as the postmaster of the Bloomington Post Office.

“I’m proud and humbled to have been selected for this position,” said Johnson. “I hope to further the Postal Service’s legacy of outstanding customer service, to serve as a mentor for the development of my  employees, and to contribute to the overall success of the organization.

“As outlined in USPS’s Delivering for America plan, we are modernizing and continually adapting to the changing needs of our customers. Our customers are priority one, whether they’re located in a major metropolitan area or smaller communities like Colton.

“I want to express my gratitude to my postal mentors for their support and encouragement, and to the leadership team at the USPS San Diego District office for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”

Johnson was born and raised in West Covina, graduated from that city’s Coronado High School and North-West College, and currently resides in Fontana.

Her hobbies include traveling, hiking and camping.
