Boy Scout Troop 40 and Cub Scout Pack 242 of Grand Terrace have received a much-needed boost thanks to a grant provided by the California Lions Foundation and facilitated by the Grand Terrace Lions Club.
The $500 grant funded the purchase of essential camping equipment to replace gear that was lost when the Scouts' trailer was stolen. The new equipment – including propane camp stove, griddle, camping cooking table and other outdoor essentials – will directly support the units’ ongoing outdoor programs and help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for Scouts of all ages. This donation is not just about equipment – it’s about restoring opportunities that were lost when our trailer was stolen,” said David Crandell, Scoutmaster of Troop 40. “We’re thankful to the Grand Terrace Lions Club and the California Lions Foundation for recognizing the importance of Scouting and stepping in to help.
The theft of the Scouts' trailer nearly six years ago was a significant setback for both Troop 40 and Pack 242, which had accumulated camping gear over many years. Replacing the stolen items had been an ongoing challenge and equipment received from the grant significantly helps them in this journey. The California Lions Foundation offers grants to Lions Clubs across the state to support impactful local projects. With this funding, the Grand Terrace Lions Club was able to directly address a long-standing need for a vital youth organization in their own backyard. The grant is a great example of how Lions make a real difference,” said Jayna Ramirez, President of the Grand Terrace Lions Club.
“The Lions are proud to support these Scouts and help restore what was lost. It’s part of our mission to invest in youth and serve our community. Troop 40 and Pack 242 serve the Grand Terrace and surrounding area and are chartered by Grand Terrace Lions Club. The Scouts regularly participate in service projects, outdoor adventures, and character-building activities that foster leadership and responsibility.
