Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) celebrated National Nurses Week with a variety of activities that took place until last Thursday, May 9 for the nursing staff. The Nursing Department presented several informative and fun team-building activities, while the health care team at ARMC gave recognition to the integral role nurses play in the care of patients.

The week commenced with a special “Year in Review” presentation highlighting the accomplishments and milestones of the nursing department and staff. Later in the week, the ARMC Unit Practice Council shared nursing presentations, and awards were presented to the Nurse Leader of the Year and the Nurse of the Year. The week concluded with a Nursing Fair, offering educational information, vendor representation and engaging games.

Team-building activities took place throughout the week and included an Escape Room challenge, a Paint Night outing at The Purple Easel, and a Florence Nightingale inspired nurse uniform contest.

“The week is a celebratory time providing the opportunity to recognize our admirable nurses who are committed to compassionate and quality care,” said Chief Nursing Officer, Jerome Dayao. “We wanted to do something special this year by providing a forum with a variety of information, as well as giving the nursing staff an opportunity to enjoy some fun outside of their typical day at the hospital.”

National Nurses Week was first observed in 1954 on Florence Nightingale's birthday, which also marked the 100th anniversary of Nightingale's mission to Crimea. The English nurse became known as the founder of professional nursing, especially due to her pioneering work during the Crimean War (1853-1856).
