The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting the public that construction contractors will be performing bridge demolition work and lane closures on I-215 at the Washington Street Overcrossing in the City of Colton.

The work is scheduled to take place nightly on Tuesday, January 18 through Friday, January 21, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Work performed through Friday night will end Saturday at 5:00 a.m. Note: Closures are dependent on contractors receiving proper materials for each job function. They can be changed or canceled at any time.

Bridge replacement work will involve North-Bound (NB) AND South-Bound (SB) nightly lane closures of I-215 and could result in a FULL mainline closure. This would mean no direct access via I-215 to the I-10 or SR-60.

The following are planned closures and alternate routes to follow:

Closure of EB I-10 connector to SB I-215:

  • Drivers can exit off Riverside Ave to access side streets & SB I-215
  • Drivers can exit off N. Rancho Ave. to access La Cadena Dr. & SB I-215
  • Drivers can exit off Mt. Vernon to access side streets to SB I-215
  • Drivers can exit off Waterman Ave to access WB I-10 to N. Rancho Ave.

Closure of WB 1-10 connector to SB I-215:

  • Drivers can exit off N. Rancho Ave. to access La Cadena Dr. & SB I-215
  • Drivers can exit off Riverside Ave to access side streets & SB I-215

Closure of NB I-215 at Mt. Vernon:

  • Drivers can exit off Mt. Vernon to be rerouted for access to NB I-215

Closure of SB I-215 at Orange Show Rd.

  • Drivers can exit at WB I-10 to N. Rancho Ave.
  • Drivers can exit at EB I-10 to access Waterman Ave

Additional signage will be put in place on the I-10, SR-60, I-215, and side streets instructing the public to utilize alternate routes to avoid delays.

NOTE: The current posted speed limit on I-215 is 55 mph following Construction Work Zone Speed Limit Reduction provisions.

Active work zone will cause lane reductions and may cause traffic delays. Plan ahead and drive safely being mindful of lane closures and detours.

Semi-trucks and oversized vehicles take precaution. Drive safely being mindful of no truck signage, clearance, and low width zones. To avoid traffic delays consider using alternate routes on I-210, I-15, or SR-60 to access surrounding communities.
